The Bay of Islands is fast establishing itself as a premier wine district with tropical Chardonnays, popular Pinot Gris, and vibrant Viogniers.
Enjoy yourself by sampling wines at the different wineries in the Kerikeri district on this small group tour.
Kerikeri is often described as a fruit bowl with sheltered orchards of citrus, kiwi fruit, avocados, olives, persimmons, tamarillos, macadamia and of course, vineyards.
The first wines in New Zealand were planted in the Bay of Islands by the missionary The Reverend Samuel Marsden in 1819. Later James Busby, who went on to govern New Zealand, planted vines at Waitangi. When in Sydney Busby established the Hunter Valley. Spend your day learning about how this foundation shaped New Zealand’s wine industry and enjoy stunning scenery and rural vistas whilst enjoying the wines of the area. Treat yourself to lunch at one of the wineries – at own cost.
While on your tour you will visit the Kerikeri Stone Store Heritage Area, view the stunning Rainbow Falls and have a shop at the Makana Chocolate Factory where you can taste a few samples and purchase gifts and indulgences. The Kauri Workshop is close by where you will see a wide range of handcrafted wood made entirely New Zealand native timber - Kauri, rimu, totara, pohutukawa and their collection of ancient wooden artefacts.
Please Note: Wine tasting is restricted to passengers 18 years or over.
Please be aware that each cruise line has varying rules about purchasing alcohol ashore,
we recommend consulting your ship's staff prior to making any winery purchase.
